Classic FFXI Beastmen Pet Leveling: 40-50

Back to Search

This classic level 75-era FFXI route starts at 40 and covers the fights through level 49. You'll finish when you reach 50. The example uses BLM/NIN, so check the plan with your own job and trained levels before heading out.

Pet levels depend on the owner. Make sure you found the one named in the guide, avoid area pulls near it and keep enough MP for a resisted spell. A one-shot kill or a certain XP rate isn't guaranteed.

Camp reference

This is for classic level 75-era FFXI. It doesn't rely on newer retail features such as Trusts, Grounds of Valor or modern teleport shortcuts.

9 levels with listed camps · 1 levels using unconfirmed backup options.

BLM / NIN Fighting And Recovery

Use single-target spells and keep enough MP for a resist and another cast to finish the pet. Test your damage first. Ancient Magic isn't always the quickest or safest way to get the kill.

Ability access for levels 40 to 50
  • Utsusemi: Ichi: your level is high enough at the start. Make sure you've learned the scroll and have Shihei. Shadows won't stop every hit.
  • Sleep: your level is high enough at the start. Make sure you've learned it, and have another option ready if it resists.
  • Warp: your level is high enough at the start. Make sure you've learned it. If the cast gets interrupted, you still need a way to stay alive.
  • Freeze: not available during this route. You'll need BLM 50.

You'll still need to learn the scroll before using a spell. Anything that unlocks at your goal level belongs to the next part of your leveling, not the fights covered here.

Level 40 to 41

Altepa Eastern Desert

F-8 / G-8 valleys

This gives you a desert camp with a specific owner to look for. Try one isolated spider first and see how the fight goes before settling into the valley.

Goblin's Spider38 - 40 Goblin Trader

Getting There

Reach Eastern Altepa via Korroloka or an unlocked travel route. Locate F-8 / G-8 using the desert map.

Watch For

The owner can turn during a long cast. Scout for manticores, undead and a clear retreat before pulling.

Alternative zones for level 40

Castle Zvahl Baileys · Map 2 lower trenches, H-6 / I-7

These bat pets give you a stop before Cape Teriggan. Check the floor map so you know which mobs are down in the trench and where you can recover in the corridor.

Goblin's Bats40 - 42 Goblin Trader

Getting There

Travel through Beaucedine and Xarcabard to Castle Zvahl. Navigate to the lower trenches on Map 2 with both travel protections ready.

Watch For

Floor differences matter. Demons, eyes and Goblins can block retreat; inspect the corridor rather than assuming the nearby map marker is reachable.

Backup option, not a confirmed camp for these levels. The pet's listed levels suggest you may be able to stay here longer, but this part of the route hasn't been confirmed by a camp report. Check the pet and try a pull. If XP is getting slow or the camp isn't working, move on or find a party.

Level 44 to 50

Cape Teriggan

Outpost vicinity; F-6 / F-7 tunnel alternative

There are two areas to check for rabbit pets here. Watch the owner's full patrol and leave enough room to recover from a resisted spell or a missed finishing hit.

Getting There

Travel through Western Altepa and Kuftal Tunnel to Cape Teriggan. Do not assume the Gustav exit can bypass the cliff, or that an outpost warp is available before level 50.

Watch For

The approach crosses dangerous monsters. Do not borrow another player's claimed pet or cast from a position covered by the owner's patrol.

Preparation And Fighting Plan

NIN support starts at level 20, assuming you've leveled it enough to keep it capped.

Find the owner before pulling its pet. For sight-based owners, wait until they're facing away, use a single-target pull and bring the pet to a spot you've checked is safe. Facing away won't protect you from sound aggro or a pair that shares hate. Avoid area attacks near the owner and leave it alive.

Pets can link with normal mobs of the same family. Low HP doesn't make the owner safe to stand near, and the listed spawn count doesn't tell you how many pets are there right now.

For BLM, take your time with the first pull and check your damage. Keep enough MP for a resist and another spell to finish. Don't assume you'll one-shot the pet or that Sleep will always land.

Pack Before Leaving

  • Silent Oils and Prism Powders if you can't cover the trip with Sneak and Invisible spells.
  • A way out if things go wrong, recovery items you can use and a Reraise option if one is available to you.
  • MP recovery items and any spell scrolls you still need and can afford. Keep some MP ready in case a pull goes wrong.
  • Shihei for the Utsusemi spells you've learned, plus tools for any other ninjutsu you plan to use.
  • Food and gear that help your magic accuracy, damage and MP recovery while resting. Keep your magic skills leveled.
  • Bring Shihei for Utsusemi: Ichi if you've learned the spell.
